India Achieves 70.10 GW of Solar Energy, Surpassing 2022

India had set an ambitious target of achieving 100 GW of solar energy capacity by 2022. However, as of June 2023, the country had reached an impressive milestone of 70.10 GW of installed solar power capacity, with an additional 55.60 GW currently under construction. The Indian government remains committed to its renewable energy goals and is actively collaborating with state governments and private industry to accelerate the progress and achieve the target at the earliest.

Union Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy, R K Singh, highlights the importance of sustainability by mentioning the potential for reusing and recycling solar panel waste. In the fiscal year 2022-23, solar energy-based generation in India played a significant role, contributing 1,02,014.24 million units (MU) to the total power generation of 16,24,465.10 MU, which includes power imported from Bhutan. This indicates the growing importance of solar power in the country’s energy mix and its potential to contribute substantially to India’s energy needs.

Navitas Solar, India’s leading solar module manufacturer appreciates the country’s achievement towards its renewable energy target goals. Navitas Solar remains committed to supporting India’s renewable energy goals through sustainable solar solutions.
