Hyderabad International Airport switches to 100% renewable energy
In a major sustainability stride, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) has announced its complete shift to green energy. The airport, spanning 675 acres, will now reduce its carbon footprint by approximately 9,300 tons of CO2 annually. Partnering with Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) made this achievement possible.
GHIAL’s adoption of green energy is expected to revolutionize airport operations, utilizing a combination of their own 10 MWp solar power plant and green energy supplied by TSSPDCL. The CEO of GHIAL, Pradeep Panicker proudly declared that Hyderabad Airport is now powered entirely by 100% renewable energy, a result of their dedicated efforts to reduce the airport’s carbon footprint over the years through various measures, with the commitment to continue doing so.
GHIAL’s environmental efforts have earned them the distinction of being a proud Carbon Neutral Airport. Navitas Solar, India’s leading solar module manufacturer, appreciates the remarkable achievement of Hyderabad International Airport that reinforces the commitment to sustainability and responsible energy practice.
