Vineet Mittal on Navitas Solar’s Sustainable Power

  1. Navitas Green Solutions (Navitas Solar) is planning to add manufacturing capacity by another 1.2 GW per annum from its current capacity of 500 MW per annum. Please tell us more about your ambitious plans and the way forward.
  2. Vineet Mittal- Navitas Solar strives to provide one of the best solutions for sustainable solar electric power with one of the most advanced production lines in India having current installed capacity of 500 MW p.a. and expanding to add 1.2 GW p.a. by December-2023 resulting in a cumulative capacity of 1.7 GW p.a. We are expecting to manufacture N-type TOPCon modules also from 2nd quarter of 2024 onwards. In the new expansion of 1.2 GW p.a., Navitas Solar can manufacture modules up to 20 Bus Bars that can generate power up to 720 watts per panel.

  3. The company has raised USD 5 million from a group of HNI investors, including promoters of Parishi Diamond Group and Lemon Emerging Ventures LLP. In which areas are you planning to invest the raised amount and how?
  4. Vineet Mittal- Yes, we have raised 5M USD from investors. We are mainly using funds for the installation and commissioning of new manufacturing line at a new location (Sisodra, Surat, Gujarat). In the new manufacturing line, we are going to install 2 lines of 600 MW and that too fully automatic, so a high amount of cost will be required for the installation and commissioning of the new manufacturing plant.

  5. Navitas Solar recently completed 10 years in the industry. How has the journey been so far and what have been the recent developments?
  6. Vineet Mittal- Yes, we have completed 10 years in the industry. It was a wonderful journey with full of learnings, projects, excitements, achievements and lessons. We have started with 75 MW p.a. followed by expansions of 200 MW, 500 MW and now 1.7 GW p.a. We have started with 3 Bus Bar Modules which could generate power from 3 to 250 Watts per panel and now we are manufacturing 10 Bus Bar modules up to 670 watts per panel. In the new manufacturing line, we can manufacture modules up to 20 Bus Bars that can generate power up to 720 watts per panel.

  7. What role are the solar PV module manufacturers playing in the transition to a clean energy future in India? How do you think are the government policies helping the Indian solar sector?
  8. Vineet Mittal- Solar energy is the best technology when it comes to all renewable energy resources because of less maintenance and capital costs. In the energy mix of the country, every resource has their own importance, but we feel that by the time solar energy will capture more share in the energy mix as every country wants to achieve certain level of energy independence.

Solar PV module manufacturers play a huge role in the transition to a clean energy future of India. As everyone knows that in any solar project installation, major portion of the cost is of Solar Modules. As domestic module manufacturers will grow their capacity and match the standards for quality, it will be easier for solar developers to buy domestically. Due to BCD imposition, we have seen a reduction in module imports. Even today, we are dependent on other countries for some raw materials but time is near when all the raw materials will be manufactured in India and the solar module will become completely made in India with all Indian raw materials.

  9. Navitas Solar has joined hands with various companies to expand the distribution of solar products across India. Please tell us more about these partnerships.
  10. Vineet Mittal- We have collaborated with Redington for national distribution of solar modules. For solar modules distribution at state level, we have collaborated with MECPower for Gujarat State, Sun Deli for Rajasthan State, Murphy Power Technologies for Maharashtra state. The partnerships are to scale up our distributions and increase our reach pan India.

  11. What innovative technology does Navitas Solar utilise to stay competitive in the market?
  12. Vineet Mittal- To stay competitive in solar market on technological front, we need to adapt things as per the market trend. Right now, Bifacial panels are trending and we foresee the trend of TOPCon technology also in the upcoming time. We manufacture Bifacial modules with the transparent backsheet in this current manufacturing line and in the upcoming manufacturing line of 1.2 GW, we will manufacture bifacial modules glass to glass also. In the upcoming manufacturing line we will be able to manufacture TOPCon modules also. At Navitas Solar, we are manufacturing Bifacial modules with transparent backsheet and glass to glass also.

  13. What are Navitas Solar’s plans and aspirations for your company’s growth and expansion in the Indian and USA markets?
  14. Vineet Mittal- We at Navitas Solar are exploring the USA, Europe & Africa market aggressively. In the USA market, we will start supplying modules this year and explore the market thoroughly. In the Indian market, our plans are to expand our manufacturing capacity up to 10 GW in upcoming 10 years.
